I have been meaning to transition from an India-based job to US, and researched quite a lot on the process. The process seems daunting, especially regarding visa sponsorship, letters of recommendation, and networking. For those who have successfully made this move, what were your biggest challenges? Was it securing sponsorship, adapting to the US workplace culture, or something else? What are your top tips for someone just beginning this job search journey?
Oh, I’ve been there! The biggest challenge for me was definitely the visa sponsorship. Many companies are hesitant to sponsor, especially for entry-level or mid-level roles. It narrows down your options considerably.
I agree. Sponsorship is tough. But for me, even before that, it was the initial job search. Getting my resume noticed by US recruiters while being based in India was a real struggle. Time zone differences, lack of US work experience… it all adds up.
For me, it was more about adapting to the US workplace culture. It’s different from India in terms of communication styles, work-life balance, and even office etiquette. It took some time to adjust and understand the unspoken rules.
