Is it normal to stay on campus in the US?

by nishaaa_1999

Hey guys, I’m planning to study in the US next year, and I keep hearing about dorm life. Do most students actually live on campus, or do they get their own place? Trying to understand how student accommodation in USA works. Would love to hear from people who’ve been through it!

Yep, most freshmen live on campus, especially in the first year. Some universities even make it mandatory. It’s a great way to make friends and settle in!

Depends on the university! At big public schools, tons of students move off-campus after the first year because it’s cheaper. Private schools? A lot more students stay in dorms.

Off-campus = more freedom, but also more responsibilities. Cooking, paying rent, dealing with landlords… dorms are easier, but they can be pricey!

First-year = dorms. Later = apartment with friends. That’s the usual route. Unless you LOVE meal plans and tiny rooms, you’ll wanna move out
