Are there any drawbacks for approaching professors for LORs?

When applying to graduate school, one often needs to request letters of recommendation (LORs) from former professors. What are some of the potential drawbacks of this process? Can someone list the things I need to careful while approaching the professors for LORs?

Exactly. And even if they agree, there’s always the chance they might forget or submit it late. That can also be a problem, especially with tight deadlines.
