Study in New Zealand with Scholarships Worth ₹1.3 Crore for Indian Students

New Zealand has launched the New Zealand Excellence Awards (NZEA) 2025, offering NZD 260,000 (≈₹1.3 Crore) in total scholarship funding exclusively for Indian students. This initiative, announced during New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon’s visit to India on March 16, 2025, reflects a deepening academic and cultural partnership between the two countries.

About the NZEA 2025

Total Scholarship Pool: NZD 260,000 (≈₹1.3 Crore)

Number of Scholarships: 29

Individual Scholarship Value: NZD 5,000 to NZD 20,000 (Approx. ₹2.5 – ₹10 lakh per student)

Eligibility:

Indian citizens (not a NZ/Australia citizen or resident)

At least 18 years old

Residing in India at the time of application

Must meet New Zealand student visa requirements

Must hold an unconditional offer from a participating university

Application Deadline: April 30, 2025 (Applications open from March 18)

Virtual Internship Programme for IIT Delhi Students

In addition to the scholarships, New Zealand has introduced a Virtual Internship Programme for 30 IIT Delhi students, providing them with remote internship opportunities at New Zealand-based companies. This initiative fosters industry exposure and connects students with New Zealand’s innovation ecosystem.

Work and Life in New Zealand

Students can work up to 20 hours per week during semesters and full-time during holidays

Eligible for a 3-year post-study work visa

Minimum wage from April 2025: NZD 23.50/hour (≈₹1,200/hour)
