Study Abroad Scholarships (2023) for Indian Students:

Hi @Nandita_Dhoke,

The Government of India does not provide scholarships for abroad internships. You can find various scholarships for abroad education, such as undergraduate, master’s, or research studies. If the internship is an essential part of your Master’s and is necessary to complete your thesis, then you can apply for a few scholarships like Fulbright-Nehru Scholarships.
Hope this helps!

Hi @Aayushi,

The government has a few scholarships and tax exemption benefits on education loans for students wishing to study abroad.

Tax Exemption benefits - You can read about the benefits here

Scholarships -
The Government of India has a few scholarships for the economically weaker sections and socially backward classes. For example - The National Overseas Scholarship by the Indian Government covers tuition fee and other expenses. The criteria for the same is students belonging to Scheduled Castes, Denotified Nomadic and Semi-Nomadic Tribes, Traditional artisans; the combined family income must be less than INR 6 lakhs.
However, if you do not fit the criteria, you can always apply for scholarships offered by the college or other organizations. I’m listing some of them below -

  1. University of Bologna offers study grants to both domestic as well as international students. All the grants mentioned on the university website are applicable for international students unless otherwise stated. It includes scholarship amount and partial or full tuition fee waiver.
  2. Bocconi University processes every application for merit-based scholarships. You do not have to submit a separate application. All the applications are automatically considered for the same.
  3. ESCP also offers merit-based scholarships to international students. The scholarship amount covers tuition fee only. If you get admission to the Paris campus and are a student of Masters in Management, you can get one or two year apprenticeship. In addition to your salary, the company will also pay your tuition fees. In order to apply, you must be fluent in French.
  4. ESSEC offers scholarships to international students, which are either based on merit or nationality. The scholarship amount can cover up to 40% of your tuition fees.
  5. HEC Paris offers scholarships upon admission, are competitive and fall into two criteria -merit-based and criteria-based. Please note that you won’t be eligible for the university scholarship if you win any other scholarship that covers more than 50% of the amount.
  6. KC Mahindra Scholarships - Maximum scholarship amount is INR 8 lakhs.
  7. JN Tata Endowmwnt Scholarships - these are loan-scholarships and do not cover the full cost of studies.
  8. GyanDhan Postgraduate Scholarships - for a two-year postgraduate course. It does not cover the full cost of studies.
  9. Erasmus Mundus Scholarship
  10. Eiffel Scholarship Program of Excellence - given by the French Ministry. You will be eligible if you are up to 25 years of age applying for a Masters degree.
  11. Inlaks Scholarship
  12. Narotam Sekhsaria Scholarship - loan-scholarships.
  13. Scholarships by The Lady Meherbai D Tata Education Trust - for women graduates.
  14. Aga Khan Foundation scholarships - offered in a 50-50 ratio - 50% scholarship grant and 50% loan scholarship.
  15. Global Study Awards - You will be eligible for the award on taking the IELTS. The scholarship amount is up to 10,000 Euros.

I hope this list helps you in finding a credible source for funding. If you have any further doubts, do post on this thread. I’d be happy to help.
All the best!

Hi @Arima,

Scholarships offered by Boston University -
There are merit-based and need-based scholarships offered by the university. Refer to this link -
http://www.bu.edu/finaid/types-of-aid/scholarships-grants/
https://www.bu.edu/grad/admission-funding/financing-your-education/scholarships-and-fellowships/

To be considered for any scholarship offered by the university, you need to secure admission. As for the eligibility criteria, it is different for every scholarship. You will have to search and read about the scholarship in detail before applying. Make sure you fulfill the eligibility criteria, otherwise, you’ll be immediately disqualified.

Since you haven’t mentioned the campus you are aiming for SP Jain School of Global Management, I’m only mentioning the scholarships offered by the Sydney campus -

I won’t be able to write about the eligibility criteria for every scholarship as the scholarships are too many with multiple requirements. However, I can give you some useful pointers that will help you in applying for the relevant ones.

  • There are two types of scholarships that universities generally offer - Merit-based scholarships and need-based scholarships. Boston University offers both types, whereas SP Jain School offers merit-based scholarships.

  • The application procedure for the scholarships will also differ depending on when it is granted to the student. There are a few cases in this.

  • Some scholarships are offered to the student upon securing admission to the university. In this event, the university will send you a mail with all the scholarships you are eligible for after you have applied to the university. There are also some entrance-based scholarships for which you will be automatically considered after you have successfully submitted your application. All these scholarships are merit-based, meaning you need to have a strong academic profile to be eligible for them.

  • Some merit-based scholarships require a separate application. For example, some scholarships that Boston University offers require a separate application. It will also have a deadline. The application might require you to submit an essay or a letter of reference.

  • As I mentioned above, the eligibility criteria for each scholarship are different. Make sure you fulfill the criteria. For example, Lu Lingzi Scholarship offered by BU is for international students. But preference is given to students from China. This is an example of something you should know before you apply for the scholarship.

  • There are need-based scholarships as well for which you will have to prove that you need financial assistance, probably by submitting the income proof. Each university sets its own criteria for need-based scholarships and will ask for relevant documents accordingly.

  • If you are unable to find any scholarships, then contact the department or the university. The Boston University has mentioned on its website that master’s and professional programs offer partial scholarships to students. Most universities keep a handful of scholarships for international students. So, just email the financial aid office or the department office asking for relevant scholarships.

  • Apart from scholarships, check if the university offers other sources of financial assistance like Teaching Assistantship, Research Assistantship, Graduate Assistantship, or on-campus jobs. In these, you’ll be paid for the work you do via a cheque. The work may include assisting a teacher, performing research, or other departmental jobs. For on-campus jobs, the work and the pay will depend on the job you apply for.

  • There are scholarships offered by external organizations as well. For example, GyanDhan offers a Postgraduate Scholarship to Indian students to pursue their masters abroad, irrespective of the country and the course. Read about it here. Similarly, there are many organizations that are mentioned in the blog. It is an extensive list that will surely help you.

Some other universities you can check out for Masters in Project Management

  • University of Kansas (USA)
  • University of Maryland (USA)
  • Northeastern University (USA)
  • The University of Texas at Dallas (USA)
  • Coventry University (UK)
  • University of Manchester (UK)
  • University of Birmingham (UK)

You can read about these universities here -

I hope this answer helps you. All the best!

Hi @Swati_Singh,

Since you haven’t mentioned the countries and universities you are targeting, I’m listing some universities country-wise that you can check out. I’ll also try to mention the approximate tuition fees so that you can decide on one that is financially feasible for you -

USA -

  • Michigan State University - total for 2 semester $59,830
  • Arizona State University - $54,593 annually
  • Ohio State University, Columbus - if living on-campus $51,482 ; if living off-campus $50,132
  • Carnegie Mellon University - $79,318+
  • Purdue University - $45,584

UK -

  • The University of Manchester - £19,500 (non-laboratory degrees)
  • The University of Sheffield - tuition fees between £18,500 and £23,750

Canada -

  • Humber College - $9,105.64 per semester (there are 8 semesters)
  • Yorkville University
  • Concordia University
  • University of Manitoba

I couldn’t find the estimated tuition fees for the last three Canadian universities. As you can see, you’d need a good amount of investment to pursue bachelors from abroad. The per semester fee is high and there are more than 4 semesters in most of these universities.

Scholarships -
Most foreign universities offer scholarships to international students. Except for Carnegie Mellon University. For this university, you can only rely on external scholarships and an education loan.

Refer to these blogs for a list of scholarships -

Most scholarships mentioned in these blogs are for masters/postgraduate courses. But there are a few that are for undergraduate courses as well. In general, scholarships for undergraduate courses are less in number, specially from external organizations. So, your best bet for scholarships is universities.
If you are unable to find scholarships on the university website, don’t worry. Contact the department or the financial aid office for information on scholarships for undergraduate international students.

Hope this helps you. All the best!
