A gap of one year would not be of any problem if you can explain this gap year. Work experience is not a requirement for admission to any of the universities. These two factors will not cause any problem. However, you should have a robust profile to get admission to any of the above-mentioned universities.

Scholarships -
Scholarships for this course and program are mainly college-specific. For example, Leeds Arts University awards The Vice-Chancellor’s International Undergraduate Scholarships of £2,000 as a tuition fee discount.
The Loughborough University awards the International scholarship to undergraduate students in the form of a 25% reduction in the tuition fees. The University of Lincoln offers Global Undergraduate Scholarships to international students.
Each university mentioned has some scholarships for international students. However, these are merit-based scholarships. Your academic records and resume should be outstanding to win one of the scholarships. Fortunately, your 4 years of work experience will help you a lot with the admission as well as with scholarships. Other than that, the university might offer a need-based scholarship if your background for the same is eligible.
The requirements for admission and getting a scholarship are SOP, IELTS, LOR, and resume.

There are no particular entrance exams to be cleared. The basic requirement is IELTS. Besides that, the portfolio should be strong. Since you have a BCom background, I would suggest you go for a certification program, which is at UCLA, USA. The program can be completed in under INR 10 lakhs to INR 15 lakhs.
Do you have any experience in the field you have chosen? If not, then the UCLA certification program might be the best option for you.

Rest, I’d advise you explore the website of the university that you have chosen. Most abroad universities offer financial aid to international students. It can be merit-based, need-based, or talent-based. There are also TAships and RAships available to students based on their academic performance.

Scholarships are either given internally by universities or externally by private organizations, government, or other institutions. Most scholarships are merit-based, though universities/colleges do give out need-based scholarships to students. Few abroad universities also provide financial assistance to international students in the form of either grant, TAships, or RAships.
For external scholarships, start the application process at least a year before the admission application. For example, the application process for the Chevening Scholarships given by the UK govt. start in September for the next year’s Fall session, meaning the applications for Fall 2021 started in September 2020 and closed on 3rd November 2020. Most external scholarships have a vetting process of 8 months to 9 months. The application will require you to write an SOP.
Internal scholarships that are given by universities/colleges generally do not have a separate application form. For example, the application for the Gates Cambridge scholarship by the University of Cambridge is the same as the application for postgraduate programs. Unless specifically mentioned, abroad universities have one or the other scholarship for international students. So, if you are not eligible for any scholarship mentioned on the university website, get in touch with the department or your supervisor.
Few tips to winning a scholarship -
- Start by making an exhaustive list of scholarships for your postgraduate program. Do check the eligibility criteria for each of them.
- Submit the scholarship application as soon as possible, and do not wait till the deadline to submit it.
- Make sure the application does not have any mistakes or any column left blank. There are high chances of rejection in presenting false information. Plus, you won’t get a chance to submit the correct information.
- Apply for as many scholarships as you can. Unless specified, there is no limit on the number of scholarships you can hold. Some scholarships do lower the amount if you have other sources to fund your education.
- Scholarship application might require an SOP or a LOR, or both. Make sure they are edited and reviewed by a mentor/teacher.
- There are many credible websites to search for scholarships. You can also use GyanDhan’s Scholarship Finder for scholarships.
- A good academic record will help you a lot in securing a scholarship. Build a good profile for scholarship applications - add extracurricular activities, volunteer work, work experience (if any).

Scholarships are not provided based on a test. Almost every scholarship is either merit-based or need-based. For merit-based scholarships, your academic profile must be outstanding. Further, for need-based scholarships, the universities have their criteria to judge the need of the student for a scholarship. I suggest contacting the university department for help regarding need-based scholarships. Most universities tend to provide partial tuition fee waiver to international students to help them study in the UK.
Rest, I’d advise you to apply for scholarships anyway. There are ways to compensate for your low scores in 12th. You can add extracurricular activities, volunteer work, internships, short courses, etc. to make your profile stand out.
