I’m planning to apply for a Master’s in Computer Science in Germany (Summer 2026 intake). I finished my B.Tech CSE in 2018 with a 7.75 CGPA, which converts to around 2.3 in the German system. I’ve also got 180 ECTS-equivalent credits and around 3 years of experience in ReactJS, JavaScript, and Java.
Do you know if this makes me eligible for public universities there? Also, any idea how late I can apply and how long the APS process usually takes?
Yes, you are eligible to apply to public universities in Germany. Your strong CGPA and work experience add significant value to your profile. With proper preparation, you have a good chance of securing admission.
To strengthen your application, you’ll need to write a compelling Statement of Purpose (SOP) and ensure that all required documents are complete. Additionally, obtaining the APS certificate is mandatory for applying to German universities. The APS process usually takes one to two months, so it’s advisable to start early. You must also take the IELTS exam, with a minimum overall band score of 6.
Germany has two main intakes: Summer and Fall. The Fall intake is the major one, offering a wider range of courses and better chances of admission to top public universities. Applications for the Summer intake typically begin next month and continue until December or January. For the Fall intake, applications usually open in March and close around June or July.
Yes, you are qualified to apply to the public universities in Germany. Your converted grade of 2.3 falls comfortably within this competitive range. And your work experience strengthens your profile.
You hold 180 ECTS-equivalent credits, which satisfy the standard requirement for a 3‑year Indian bachelor’s degree recognized in Germany.
The APS certificate, which is required for many universities and is mandatory for visa processing, takes 3–4 weeks, though during busy admission seasons it can extend up to 6 weeks or even 3 months in rare cases. Start APS certification early to avoid delays.
Applications for the summer 2026 intake start from August 2025 to mid-January 2026. Focus on preparing for IELTS/ TOEFL, crafting a strong SOP, and getting recommendation letters ready.

Im planning to take Computer Science with AI and data analysis . I tried through DAAD , im not able to figure the right Universities .
Im looking for getting into the upcoming summer intake . Can you also suggest the right Universities which I can target to ? FYI , I do not have GRE . I will start with the APS process in a week , waiting for transcriptions from my college .
Hi @dbak05, Good for you for targeting a Master’s in Computer Science in Germany! Putting your application together from what you’ve outlined:
– A 2.3 GPA in the German system and 180 ECTS should be sufficient for basic academic qualifications for most public universities. It’s possible individual universities will have special requirements, however, so individual program specifications should be reviewed.
– Experience with ReactJS, JavaScript, and Java for 3 years can actually bolster your application significantly if the program highly regards practical or professional experience.
– Most summer intake deadlines for German universities fall between October and January, but it’s crucial to verify with each university.
– The APS Process (particularly for students from India, China, Vietnam, etc.) can take between 4-8 weeks, depending on the season and completeness of documents. It is important to start early to avoid missing application deadlines.
Hello. I would require an extensive view of your resume and profile to able to better suggest universities or options. Daggendorf Institute of Technology is one good institute whihch you can look at. I have sent an email if you wish to have a session to discuss further options and details. Thanks
You need to decide between a Technical University (TU) and a University of Applied Sciences (UAS) is important. It impacts admission requirements and course focus. TUs are more research-oriented and may require GRE, while UAS focus on practical skills and usually don’t. Be clear about your preference, then filter accordingly on the DAAD website to find the right public universities faster . Here are some university suggestions for your course - Technical University of Munich (TUM)(GRE optional) , University of Stuttgart , RWTH Aachen University (GRE Optional) , TU Darmstadt , HTW Berlin (University of Applied Sciences) , Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg. Feel free to drop a question.
Hi @Gayatree_B, am I late for the application process for this upcoming summer 2026? I’m getting calls from agencies. They are stressing that colleges have started with the admissions process. And I’m worried as I’m yet to start with IELTS as well as APS .
Also can I keep these Unis as my safe option based on my qualifications ?
University of Freiburg , Uni-Saarland , Uni of Regensburg ?
You are not late for the process. Start listing down university from DAAD website and research the application deadline of universities on their official website which your are interested. You will get real check. Do not fully believe on any consultancy.
Yes, keep some university as backup but always check criteria on their official website. Do let me know how can I help you more.
Hi , There is another query , not an issue yet but , In my 12th marksheet my name is DEEBAKKUMAR S , but in my all other documents it is DEEBAK KUMAR S . Will this cause an issue in later point of time ?
Yes, this kind of name variation can cause issues later in your German master’s application, visa process, or even while opening a bank account there. Even a space difference like DEEBAKKUMAR S vs. DEEBAK KUMAR S can trigger problems.
You can correct your 12th marksheet through your school board so it matches your passport name (DEEBAK KUMAR S).
If correction is not possible, then you can follow these steps
Make a notarized affidavit stating both names refer to the same person.
Get a Gazette notification (official name declaration) — this is stronger proof and accepted internationally.
Keep both documents ready to submit with your application and visa file.
Hi @dbak05 ,
Yes , This will cause issues in passport and visa process. Your passport details must match your 10th or 12th marksheets. If you can’t change the marksheet, update your Aadhaar and PAN accordingly, as these will be needed for your passport and visa. I hope this will help
Hi Gayatree, In all the documents my name is DEEBAK KUMAR S , except for 12th marksheet (DEEBAKKUMAR S) . I recieved my passport today , in that my name is DEEBAK KUMAR SELVA KUMAR (Selva kumar is my father name) , I have got a notarized affidavit stating DEEBAK KUMAR S and DEEBAKKUMAR S belongs to me . Concerned with if my passport name can create an issue .
Edit: also do i need 12th certificate/marksheet for visa process ?
Your passport name will be considered for all further processes. Please use the name mentioned on your passport everywhere from now on. It’s good that you have affidavit incase needed.
I received my APS within 10-12 days of submitting. I had to attach an affidavit for my name issue. Also, for 12th marksheet verification they requested my admit card. Waiting for my IELTS exam on 16th September.
Hi @Gayatree_B I have applied for THWS , they have sent a mail saying , submit school leaving certificate and not the degree certificate . Any idea what is school leaving certificate ?
You have to upload your 12th class school leaving certificate or if you have done diploma then upload diploma leave certificate. I hope this will help. Do let me know.
