ETS has shared essential updates to the TOEFL iBT® exam to make it simpler, faster, and fairer for students around the world, especially in India.

At-Home Testing Updates (Starting May 30, 2025)

Big improvements are coming to the Home Edition:

AI ID check (ENTRUST) for faster and easier check-in

Simpler registration and test-day steps to reduce stress

Friendly ETS-trained proctors to help during the test

Smarter Test Format & Updated Topics (From January 2026)

The Reading and Listening sections will become adaptive, meaning the test adjusts to your answers in real time.

Other improvements:

Real-life academic topics like team discussions

More inclusive content to reduce cultural bias

New Scoring System (From January 2026)

A new 1–6 score band will be added alongside the usual 0–120 scale

Aligned with CEFR, the global English level standard

Other Updates

New Koss headphones are available at all test centers

Scores in 72 hours or less

Free prep materials launching July 2025
