Australia Announces New English Test Requirements for Indian Students

From 7 August 2025, the Australian government will introduce new English language requirements for student visa applicants. If you’re planning higher studies in Australia, here’s what you need to know:
Key Changes for Students
Approved Tests: IELTS (Academic & General Training with One Skill Retake), PTE Academic, TOEFL iBT, OET, CELPIP General, Cambridge C1 Advanced, LANGUAGECERT Academic, and MET (with Single Section Retake).
No Online Tests: Fully online options like IELTS Online, CELPIP Online, MET Digital (at-home), OET@Home, and TOEFL iBT Home Edition will not be accepted after 6 Aug 2025.
Validity Rules:
Tests taken before 7 Aug 2025 remain valid (up to 3 years) if your visa application is lodged before 6 Aug 2028.
Tests after 7 Aug 2025 must meet the new thresholds.
Updated Score Minimums (Student Visas)
Competent English: IELTS 6.0 each | PTE 47–54 | TOEFL 16–19 per section.
Superior English: IELTS 8.0 each | PTE 69–88 | TOEFL 26–30 per section.
