Germany Launches Online Visa Portal for International Students

Germany has launched an online visa application system, making it easier for students, including those from India, to apply for visas. The Consular Services Portal, which started on February 17, allows applicants to complete the visa process digitally. However, students must still visit a VFS centre to submit biometric data and verify their documents.

How the New Visa System Works

Applicants fill out forms online and upload documents—no physical paperwork is needed.

German authorities review applications digitally.

Successful candidates receive a VFS notification to schedule their biometric and document verification appointments.

Key Points for Students

Proof of financial stability is required, with a Blocked Account containing at least €992 (approx. ₹90k) per month or €11,904 (approx. ₹10.8 Lakhs) per year.

The online system helps reduce errors and ensures students are prepared before in-person appointments.

The online system is now active in all 167 German visa offices worldwide, making the process faster and more efficient.
