Australia has announced a 9% increase in international student intake, allowing up to 295,000 students to enrol in 2026, up from 270,000 in 2025.
What’s important for Indian students:
More Opportunities: Increased quotas mean better chances of securing admission.
Housing Assurance: Universities must provide proof of safe and secure housing for students.
Visa Changes: Stricter visa rules, introduced earlier and including higher visa fees (now approx. ₹40,000), remain in effect.
Focus on Southeast Asia: Applicants from countries like India will benefit from Australia’s increased diplomatic focus on the region.
Australia continues to be a top destination for Indian students, contributing significantly to the Australian economy (over ₹2.7 lakh crore in 2024).
