Australia’s new 10-year migration strategy under PM Anthony Albanese brings stricter processes and rising costs for international students, especially those from India, the country’s second-largest student group.
What’s Changing?
1. Student Visa Fees
Set to increase again by July 2025
Expected hike: AUD 2,000 (₹1.1 lakh), up from AUD 1,600 (₹88,000)
(Already doubled from last year’s AUD 710)
2. Longer Processing Times
Promised: 7–14 days
Current reality: 46–84 days
3. Decline in Visa Approvals
Visas to Indian students dropped over 50% in 2023–24
Now: 50,516 | Earlier: 102,696
Total temporary visas to Indians fell: 5.84 lakh → 4.13 lakh
Still a Top Choice- Why?
Despite policy tightening, Indian student enrollment rose to 1.39 lakh in 2024, up from 1.26 lakh in 2023.
This signals that interest remains strong, and many students are finding successful pathways by planning better and staying informed.
