Guys I was looking up universities and saw the University of Florida ranking in the world is kinda decent but the University of Central Florida one is wayyy low like way below 800 or something on QS… Any idea why? Is it not good? Or is there something else going on with these ranks? I am confused because their website looked nice and all.
QS ranking doesn’t always mean the University is bad bro They use different criteria like how many times faculty get cited in research papers, how international the campus is, reputation etc. UCF is actually pretty solid in the US but globally, it just doesn’t score high in citations & prestige metrics. Doesn’t mean it’s a bad choice tho, esp if you wanna do STEM or tech stuff, they have hella funding and partnerships locally.
hey @omkarsingh
Yeah, QS rankings can be kinda weird. They mostly look at research output, citations, international reputation, etc. UF has been around longer and is a big research name, so it ranks higher. UCF’s actually huge in size and has solid programs (like engineering, optics, game design), but it doesn’t have the same global research clout, so it drops way down on QS.
Doesn’t mean it’s bad though for some fields, UCF’s actually pretty strong. Rankings don’t always tell the full story.
Hi @omkarsingh, Rankings can be a bit tricky they don’t always reflect the full picture. QS and other global rankings focus heavily on research output, academic reputation, and international faculty/student ratios. University of Florida is a big research powerhouse, so it scores high.
University of Central Florida (UCF) is still a solid school, but it’s more regionally focused and doesn’t have as much global research visibility, which drags down its QS rank. That doesn’t necessarily mean it’s “bad” for certain programs, especially engineering, computer science, and hospitality, UCF actually has a great reputation in the US.
So yeah, don’t judge solely on the world ranking look at program-specific rankings, faculty, location, and career outcomes too.
That’s a relief then thank you for clarifying!
Thanks for the link it is a bit clear now.
@omkarsingh UF is ranked higher globally because it’s a top research university with big funding and international collaborations. UCF ranks lower mainly because rankings don’t fully reflect its strengths it’s more teaching-focused, huge in student numbers, and known for industry links in Orlando. So UF = more global prestige, UCF = solid opportunities and affordability, just not captured well in QS ranks.
