I am currently in great confusion, I do not know what to do next: study for UPSC or do an MBA in India or should I pursue a Master’s in Business Analytics from Arizona State University?
First of all, you need to be clear regarding what you want to in future, the career prospects which you have listed are varied and have different career pathways. All I can do is give you the realities of each option and you can figure out what makes sense for you. Rest you have to figure out whether you want to take up challenges of improving the system and earn good perks/power/respect for it OR you want to work hard, spend less time with family and have luxurious life.
1. **UPSC **

- Opportunity to make a big impact in society
- Good long-term benefits and prestige
Cons
- Extremely competitive (less than 1% success rate)
- Requires intense preparation, often over multiple years
- Limited global mobility or private-sector options
Best if:
- You are passionate about public service and administration
- You are ready to commit 2–3 years to rigorous study with uncertain outcome
2. MBA in India
Pros
- Builds leadership and management skills
- Helps you transition into corporate/business roles (marketing, finance, operations, etc.)
- Shorter duration (1–2 years) with strong job prospects from Tier-1 B-schools (IIMs, ISB, XLRI)
Cons
- Very expensive in top schools (₹20–30 lakhs)
- Very competitive entrance exams (CAT, GMAT, etc.)
- ROI varies a lot by college—average or unknown colleges may not offer great placements
Best if:
- You are looking to grow into a corporate leadership career in India
- You have some work experience or entrepreneurial interest
3. MS in Business Analytics from ASU
Pros
- Strong focus on data, tech, and business analytics—very in demand globally
- ASU is well-ranked and known for its analytics and STEM programs
- Exposure to global business practices and modern tech stack
Cons
- High cost (~$40–60K USD), plus living expenses
- Visa and job market uncertainty (especially for international students)
- Must be prepared to adapt to technical skills
Best if:
- You’re interested in data-driven business roles like analytics, product, consulting, or tech
- You’re open to working in the U.S. or globally
- You’re okay with learning some programming and tech tools
Final Thoughts: How to Decide
Ask yourself:
- Where do you want to work and live in 5–10 years? India or abroad?
- What type of career appeals to you? Public service, corporate leadership, or data/tech business roles?
- How much time, money, and risk are you willing to invest?
A quick rule of thumb:
- UPSC if you want to serve the public and are ready for a long, uncertain prep process
- MBA India if you want to work in India’s corporate world, especially in management
- MS in Business Analytics (ASU) if you want a global career in analytics, data, or tech-business roles
