So I’ve been looking at unis outside India and stuff but I have zero clue how to apply for scholarships abroad. is it like one form for all? Do universities give it or I need to find other websites too?? if anyone has applied or planning to, can you please tell how you started? Like first step types.
So first of all, yes, universities do offer scholarships, but there’s no single form for all. There are two main types:
University scholarships – These are given by the university itself based on your profile (academics, leadership, research, etc.). Some are automatic (no separate form needed), while others need a separate application.
External scholarships – These are offered by organisations outside the university (like Fulbright, Inlaks, DAAD, Chevening, etc.), and each has its own website and process.
Another really good way to fund your studies is to apply for Research Assistant (RA) positions. Here’s how:
Find professors at your target universities whose research interests match yours.
Email them with your CV and a short intro, showing how your background aligns with their work.
If they agree to take you as an RA, they usually offer a stipend and fee waiver, which covers a big part of your expenses.
You can also explore scholarships using these helpful platforms:
GyanDhan
DAAD Scholarship Portal (for Germany)
EducationUSA
Start by shortlisting your universities, checking their scholarship pages, and then looking into relevant external ones.
@ArnavSinghh532 I completely understand how confusing it feels at first. There isn’t one form for all scholarships.
Most universities have their own scholarships. Some are automatic based on your application, while others require a separate form. It’s important to check each university’s website carefully.
There are also external scholarships for Indian students like Inlaks, KC Mahindra, Fulbright-Nehru, and some government-funded ones.
The best way to start is by shortlisting universities, checking their scholarship pages, and creating a tracker for deadlines and requirements. That helped me stay on top of everything when I applied.
Happy to share more if you need help getting started.
Thanks a lot @Ankitkumar72 @sharad_panchal for your helpful suggestions!
Could anyone share their experience with scholarship interviews (if applicable)? What kind of questions are usually asked, and how can one prepare effectively?
