Hey everyone! I’ve got an offer from University of Greenwich and planning to join this September. Super excited but also a bit nervous since it’ll be my first year away from home. For those already studying there or who’ve been through it—what’s some advice you wish someone gave you before starting at Greenwich?
Congrats on your offer! First tip—don’t skip the orientation week. It’s actually super helpful for settling in and you’ll get to meet a lot of people before classes properly begin. Plus, the campus is beautiful so take time to explore a bit during those first few days!
Totally agree with the orientation bit. I met my flatmates during one of those welcome events and it made a huge difference. Also, try joining a few societies early on—even if it’s just out of curiosity. It’s a fun way to make friends outside your course.
Yeah and speaking of societies—Greenwich has a ton of them! I joined the film society on a whim and ended up finding my closest friends there. Don’t stress about “fitting in” right away, just show up and be open to new things. Everyone’s figuring it out in the first few weeks.
Also, don’t wait too long to figure out your routine. First year can feel chill, but it’s good to get into the habit of balancing study and life early on. Use the library—it’s a lifesaver during deadlines, and the views from there? Unreal.
