Thinking About Moving Out After College — Will It Get More Expensive?

Hey everyone! I’m currently living in Dallas, Texas, and I’m planning to move out once I graduate from university next year. Just wondering—do you think the cost of living will keep going up over the next 5 years? Trying to figure out if it’s smarter to stay local or consider moving to another city (or country) after college. Would love to hear your thoughts!

Also, random question: is the University of Texas Dallas expensive compared to other public universities?

Yeah, cost of living has definitely been creeping up in most big cities, Dallas included. Rent especially has gone higher in the last couple of years. If you’re planning long-term, you might want to look at cities with a lower cost of living or strong job markets. And to your side question—UT Dallas is kinda mid-range for tuition if you’re in-state, but housing costs around the area have gone up a bit.

Totally agree. I used to live near UTD and saw how rents near campus jumped in just two years. It’s not super expensive compared to schools in California or the Northeast, but it’s not cheap either. The thing is, salaries in Texas haven’t jumped as fast as the cost of living, so that makes things tighter. If you’re planning to move out, I’d start budgeting now just to get a feel.
