Have you ever heard of a love story that’s… nailed to a tree?
Welcome to Murray State University, home to one of the most heartwarming and quirky college traditions in the U.S, The Shoe Tree.
For over 60 years, couples who met and fell in love on this campus have marked their story by nailing a pair of old shoes to a tree. They write their names, their anniversary date, and leave their love story hanging—literally. Some even return years later with a baby shoe to mark the next chapter in their journey together.
But how did this tradition start? And what happens to the tree when it’s full?
In this video, we explore:
The origin of the Shoe Tree legend
Real stories from couples who’ve added their shoes
Why the tradition continues to this day (and through multiple trees!)
