New Zealand has launched the New Zealand Excellence Awards (NZEA) 2025, offering NZD 260,000 (≈₹1.3 Crore) in total scholarship funding exclusively for Indian students. This initiative, announced during New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon’s visit to India on March 16, 2025, reflects a deepening academic and cultural partnership between the two countries.
About the NZEA 2025
- Total Scholarship Pool: NZD 260,000 (≈₹1.3 Crore)
- Number of Scholarships: 29
- Individual Scholarship Value: NZD 5,000 to NZD 20,000 (Approx. ₹2.5 – ₹10 lakh per student)
- Eligibility:
- Indian citizens (not a NZ/Australia citizen or resident)
- At least 18 years old
- Residing in India at the time of application
- Must meet New Zealand student visa requirements
- Must hold an unconditional offer from a participating university
- Application Deadline: April 30, 2025 (Applications open from March 18)

Virtual Internship Programme for IIT Delhi Students
In addition to the scholarships, New Zealand has introduced a Virtual Internship Programme for 30 IIT Delhi students, providing them with remote internship opportunities at New Zealand-based companies. This initiative fosters industry exposure and connects students with New Zealand’s innovation ecosystem.
Work and Life in New Zealand
- Students can work up to 20 hours per week during semesters and full-time during holidays
- Eligible for a 3-year post-study work visa
- Minimum wage from April 2025: NZD 23.50/hour (≈₹1,200/hour)
