Study Abroad Options with Low 11th/12th Grades?

My 10th grade score is 89%, 11th is 45%, and I expect around 50-60% in 12th. My JEE percentile is 49. I understand my chances for top Indian universities are slim. I’m looking for suggestions for undergraduate programs abroad that I could realistically get into with these grades. My budget is around ₹1.5 crore (loan possible). I’ve heard about SJSU, ASU, and UIC – are these good options, and what other universities should I consider?

I understand. Those grades do make it tough for the top Indian institutions. Studying abroad is definitely an option, though! It’s great you’re thinking proactively. A 1.5 crore budget gives you some flexibility, too. Have you looked at any specific countries or universities?

Someone mentioned San Jose State (SJSU), Arizona State (ASU), and University of Illinois Chicago (UIC). I’m not sure if those are realistic, though. I’m open to pretty much anywhere, as long as I can get in and the program is decent.

SJSU, ASU, and UIC are all decent options, especially ASU, known for being relatively accessible to international students. But let’s think beyond those. Your 11th and predicted 12th scores will be a key factor. Many universities abroad, especially in the US, look at your high school transcript as a whole, not just the 12th grade. So, you need to find places that consider a holistic application.

Exactly. And since you have a decent budget, that opens up more possibilities. Have you considered Canada? They have some excellent universities, and their admission requirements can sometimes be a bit more flexible than the US, especially for certain programs. Australia is another option, though it can be expensive.

I haven’t really looked into Canada or Australia. I was mostly focused on the US. What kind of universities should I be targeting, given my grades? I’m not aiming for the absolute top tier, just somewhere reputable where I can get a good education.

SJSU, ASU, and UIC will be a difficult one to get in with those scores. Some colleges in Texas have shown flexibility in the past so try those.

Expand your focus to other countries too, especially Australia and New Zealand because they have some universities that have lower requirements and the whole visa/residency options are also easier there.
