Should i prepare for the GRE if it's optional for JSOM's MS in supply chain management?

I am unsure about preparing for the GRE. the JSOM MS admissions website lists GRE/GMAT as optional. i have a CGPA of 7.5 in mechanical engineering and 3 years of relevant work experience as a SAP materials management consultant.

program: MS in supply chain management
term: fall 2025

should i invest time and money in GRE preparation?

Hi @anjaaleeee_s
Based on your profile, you may not need to invest in GRE preparation:

  • GRE Optional: With the GRE/GMAT being optional, your work experience and academic background will likely hold more weight in your application.
  • Relevant Experience: Your 3 years as a SAP materials management consultant align directly with the program, making your application strong without the GRE.
  • Solid CGPA: A CGPA of 7.5 in mechanical engineering, combined with your experience, presents a solid profile.

However, if you’re seeking a competitive edge or aiming for scholarships, a strong GRE score could help balance your CGPA.

GRE is optional for most of the university in the usa including UTD JSOM.

I will suggest you to go for GRE/GMAT if you are not applying in the last round of application. if you manage to score over 322, chances are high that you might end up getting scholarship.

Only invest time and money if you feel you can get the required score and are in early rounds of application.
