Should I move to Germany for my bachelor's? What do I need to know first?

Thinking about doing my bachelors in Germany, but I honestly don’t have any clue about what it’s actually like there. How’s life for international students, the costs, and is studying there really worth it?

Hi @tanyacrest ,

Studying a bachelor’s in Germany is a great opportunity, especially at public universities where tuition is free or very low. However, international students must be prepared for a few key requirements.
First, Indian students must either complete one year of university in India, clear exams like JEE Advanced, or attend a Studienkolleg in Germany, as 12th-grade marks alone usually aren’t enough. Most programs require proof of English proficiency through IELTS or TOEFL, and for German-taught courses, a B2/C1 level in German is needed. Additionally, the APS certificate is now mandatory for Indian students to verify academic documents before applying.
You’ll also need to show proof of funds through a blocked account with around €11,904 for living costs, which are higher than in India. Other required documents include a valid passport, academic transcripts, SOP, and sometimes a CV or letters of recommendation. Learning basic German is highly recommended to ease your daily life and improve part-time job prospects. Overall, with proper planning and willingness to adapt, it’s a smart and valuable choice for higher education. Do check DAAD website to look for universities. All the best !

Germany is worth it, if you lookin at low-cost studies. Most public unis don’t charge tuition, just semester fees around €300-400. Living expenses can be around €800-1000 a month tho, depends if you in Munich or smaller cities. Also, German skills help a LOT, even tho courses might be in English, daily life’s easier if you speak a bit.
