Scholarships for Indian Students to Study in Japan?

Has anyone here looked into scholarships for Indian students to study in Japan? I’ve been reading a bit about Japanese universities but the fee and living cost kinda scared me  Just wondering if there are any fully-funded or even partial scholarships for undergrad or later?

Hi @ney_haa, yeah japan actually has some really good options for international students, especially Indians. The big one is the MEXT Scholarship it’s fully funded, covers tuition, living allowance, and even flight tickets. Both undergrad and postgrad students can apply, though the process is a bit competitive and involves exams/interviews through the Japanese embassy.

Apart from that, there are JASSO scholarships (partial funding, usually monthly stipends), and a lot of Japanese universities offer their own merit-based or need-based scholarships once you get admitted. For example, places like University of Tokyo, Kyoto University, and Waseda have programs that cover a good chunk of tuition.

Living costs in Tokyo can be high, but other cities like Osaka, Fukuoka, or Sendai are way more affordable. If funding is your main concern, definitely start with MEXT that’s the most popular route for Indian students.

Oh yes there are a few good ones! Look up the MEXT scholarship – it’s from the govt of japan & covers tuition + monthly stipend + flight cost :money_with_wings: Most students apply through the Japanese embassy in India, there’s a whole process but it’s super worth it. Just gotta prep early.

Yesss MEXT is top tier but also kinda competitive… another one is the JASSO scholarship. That one’s for international students who’re already in Japan tho (like after you get in). Some unis also offer tuition waivers or entrance scholarships if your grades are good.

@ney_haa There are scholarships for Indian students to study in Japan, including some that are fully funded or generous partials. The most well-known is the MEXT (Monbukagakushō) Scholarship, which is Japan’s government scholarship and covers tuition, stipend, and travel in many cases.

Other options include the Mitsui & Co. Scholarship Program for Indian undergraduates in Japan. And there’s also the JEES T. Banaji Indian Students Scholarship that offers support (e.g. ~¥100,000 / month) for Indian students in undergraduate, master’s, or doctoral programs at selected Japanese institutions.

If you want, I can filter and share only currently open scholarships (with deadlines) for Indian students to Japan so you can apply immediately.
