Punjab Government Launches Full Overseas Scholarship for Low-Income Students


Punjab’s government has announced a fully funded overseas scholarship scheme for students from low-income families, enabling them to pursue higher education at the world’s top 500 universities.

Key Highlights

  • Coverage: Tuition fees, visa costs, airfare, living expenses, annual maintenance allowance (₹13.17 lakh), and a contingency allowance (₹1.35 lakh).
  • Eligibility:
    • Minimum 60% in graduation
    • Age below 35 years
    • Parents’ annual income is less than ₹8 lakh
  • Reservation: A 30% quota for women is in place to encourage female participation.
  • Target Group: Students from Scheduled Caste communities and landless agricultural labourers.

Government’s Vision

Announcing the initiative, Punjab’s Social Security Minister, Dr. Baljit Kaur, emphasized that the scheme aims to remove financial barriers and create social mobility for promising young people.

This move is designed to expand opportunities for talented students who might not have otherwise had the means to study abroad.
