New Zealand Visa Update: New Police Clearance Certificate Rule for Indian Applicants

From 1 December 2025, Indian nationals applying for a New Zealand visa must submit Police Clearance Certificates (PCCs) issued only by a Regional Passport Office of the Ministry of External Affairs. Local police-issued PCCs, previously accepted, will no longer be valid.

Key Changes

  • Only Regional Passport Office PCCs will be accepted.

  • Local police station, Deputy Commissioner, or Superintendent-issued PCCs will be rejected.

  • This rule applies only to Indian nationals residing in India.

  • Rules for Indian nationals living abroad or for non-Indians with past residence in India remain unchanged.

Important Notes for Students

  • PCCs are required for visitor, student, and work visas if your stay exceeds 24 months.

  • Certificates must be less than 6 months old at the time of application.

  • Some issuing authorities may require fingerprints, so plan in advance.

  • Provide an English translation if the PCC is in a language other than English.

Tip: Start your PCC application early, as it may take some time to process.
