Hi all,
I have a bachelor degree in mechanical engineering and MBA degree in HR. I have 7 months of HR experience. Unfortunately I lost my job recently and couldn’t land a job. The job market here in india is bad. Now I am considering changing my stream to business analytics since both my degrees have become useless. Could someone shed some light on my decision to go to US for masters in fall 2025 as a fresher. Iam not sure about the job market there. So could anyone shed some light
Job market is bad everywhere given focus on AI and automation now. Even if you choose to do a masters in USA, your chances to get into a good college with such less work experience wouldn’t be the best. Post graduating, getting a job there is equally tough. Find ways to upskill here while working part time. I would personally advise looking for jobs here in India even if it’s at a small company.
Hi Surendhar,
Honestly, in the US, an MS in business analytics is a very short course (9 months to 16 months) in duration. If you are a fresher, I wouldn’t recommend going for MSBA since the job market is bad here as well. MSBA is a degree that requires at least 2 years of work experience. For fresher jobs, the analytical roles are data scientist, and data analyst, for that it is better to do an MS in data analytics or MS in data science.
Even if you opt to do MSBA in fall 2025, you will be graduated by 2026 and the situation will be somewhat similar to what you are in currently. So being an MSBA graduate, if you really want to change your field, upskill yourself in the field of analytics and figure out your career goals.
Hey guys your replies means a lot and thank you for that. It seems that BA might not be the right choice, Iam thinking of supply chain management. Since my MBA degree is a dual specialization degree(HR and operations management) and I have also learned supply chain management as a subject in my operations management classes, I think it may be a good choice to do masters in US. So it might work right ?
I’ll reiterate the same point I mentioned earlier—regardless of whether you choose business analytics or supply chain management, the current job market is tough everywhere, especially in the US. Without substantial work experience, it can be difficult to stand out during admissions and later when seeking employment post-graduation.
Instead of relying solely on a master’s degree to boost your prospects, consider gaining more practical experience and upskilling here in India while working part-time or in internships. That way, you can build a stronger foundation for applying to a master’s program or finding job opportunities, whether in India or abroad.
Hey, happy to connect on LinkedIn about this if you would like to get on a call sometime and know more: https://www.linkedin.com/in/anjaliladdha/
if your finances are sound, and you are good with communications, dont think much and come for your masters, but do not come with the expectation that it is going to be chilled out 2 years.
If your goal is to get a job, you will have to apply for 1000s of jobs, cook your own food etc.
If you are determined to work hard and can manage staying away from family, go for it.
Also, i know so many folks who were not doing a job in india and are making upwards of 75000USD in yearly pay, so it can be rewarding as well.
ALL THE BEST
Business analytics is a strong and in-demand field, particularly in the US, where companies from every industry are seeking professionals with expertise. From my point of view transitioning to business analytics might be quite prudent at this point, considering an engineering background with an MBA in HR
Research about a few areas beforehand:
US Job Market: Business analysts and data scientists, among other related professions, are in comparatively high demand, especially in California, New York, and Texas. But competition could be tough, along with the visa policies that may also impact job prospects for international students.
Course Selection: Check for technical courses combined with business-oriented courses. There are many universities in the US which have excellent programs in Business Analytics, and interning or doing related projects at many places that can help you out as a fresher.
Networking and Internships: These universities place a lot of emphasis on networking and internships, so can get you a full-time role after graduation. You will be responsible for reaching out to people and finding internships.
It may also be a good idea to contact current students or graduates here on the platform of business analytics programs in the US and ask them what to expect.
