Hi i scored a 314 in my gre. I retook it and got 305. Not going to give it an attempt no 3. Please tell me what schools should i aim for? Ideally i wanted to go for ucla and nyu but not sure if that’s a good idea with my current score.
Hi @VikramS11,
Given your GRE score of 314, which is a strong result, here’s how you might approach your school selection:
- UCLA and NYU: Both are highly competitive, and while your score is impressive, it’s on the lower side compared to their average admitted scores. Applying to these schools is still an option, but also consider other programs where your score aligns better.
- Alternative Options: Look for schools with strong programs in your field that have slightly lower average GRE scores. Focus on institutions that value work experience and other aspects of your application.
- Program-Specific Focus: With your relevant work experience, target programs that emphasize practical experience and a holistic admissions process.

GRE is becoming optional more than ever in the admission process in most of the US universities, what I can tell you is even 340 in are won’t guarantee a admission alone, there’s so many other things the university will consider.
your score is anyways good, just don’t wait for the last rounds to apply, and apply as soon as you can.
your chances of getting a admit will be much higher.
here’s 2 university where I can see you getting a admit without to much of a trouble - UTD and Northeastern university.
