I’m a working professional with 4 years of experience in the IT industry. I have a B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering from a tier 3 college. My goal is to relocate to either Germany (preferred) or Australia. I’ve been actively searching for jobs in Germany, but haven’t had much success.
I’m now considering pursuing a post-graduate degree in Germany as a potential pathway to permanent residency. Which approach is more likely to be successful: continuing my job search or pursuing further education in Germany?
Four years of experience in IT is a good start, but breaking into the German market directly can be tough, especially from a tier 3 college background. I’ve seen it happen, but it’s often for very specialized roles or with significant experience. A Master’s in Germany could be a good strategy, but it’s a significant investment of time and money.
I agree with @themiraclekid , direct job search is difficult. But a Master’s degree in Germany is not a bad idea! You’ll not only improve your skills but also get immersed in the culture, build a local network, and improve your German language skills, which are crucial. Plus, after graduating, you get an 18-month job-seeker visa. That significantly increases your chances.
While a Master’s sounds great, let’s consider the practicalities. German universities have specific entry requirements. Will your B.Tech from a tier 3 college meet those? Also, most Master’s programs are in German. How are your language skills? You’ll need a strong score in a recognized German language test. And finally, can you afford it? Even though public universities are relatively affordable, living expenses are substantial
@eila_fire has some valid points. You need to research university requirements thoroughly. Don’t just assume your degree will be accepted. German language proficiency is a must. Don’t underestimate that. And the cost of living, even with a part-time job, can be challenging. Plus, there’s no guarantee of a job even after you graduate. The 18-month visa is helpful, but you still have to find a suitable position.
