So I was thinking about doing my master’s in the US… and Arizona State University looks pretty cool ![]()
Where to start or what I need. Is GRE still needed? How hard is it to get in??
ASU is actually a really good option, a lot of international students choose it because the campus is huge, programs are solid, and they’ve got good research and industry links. About GRE, most of their programs have made it optional now, so it depends on which department you’re applying to. For CS or engineering, you usually don’t have to take it anymore, but if you think a good score will boost your profile, you can still give it.
Getting in isn’t as tough as Ivy Leagues, but it’s still competitive. They look closely at your GPA, SOP, LORs, and any projects or work experience you’ve done. If your academics are decent and your SOP clearly shows why you want that program, you’ve got a fair shot. Best way to start is shortlist the exact program, check the department requirements on their site, take IELTS/TOEFL, and start drafting SOP + arranging LORs early. That sets you up well before deadlines.
