IELTS vs IELTS UKVI, what's the difference really?

I’ve seen students talking about IELTS UKVI and normal IELTS.. Are they like 2 totally different exams or just different names? Does the format change? And like if I give UKVI, can I still use that score if I plan canada later or I’ll have to write again?

hey @Qureshi786 IELTS UKVI and the normal IELTS (Academic) are basically the same in terms of format, level, questions, and scoring. The main difference is that IELTS UKVI is approved for UK visas and is conducted at special test centres with extra security checks. If you’re planning to study in the UK, especially under a student visa, you might need the UKVI version. But the good part is—if you take IELTS UKVI, you can still use that score for Canada or other countries too. So if you’re not sure about where you’ll go, UKVI Academic is a safer option. But if you’re sure you’re not going to the UK at all, then just go for the regular IELTS Academic—it’s cheaper. Hope this helps

Hi @Qureshi786,

For Canada, you don’t need IELTS UKVI regular IELTS (Academic or General) is accepted.
UKVI is only required if you’re applying to the UK, so for Canada, just go with the standard IELTS based on your study.

They’re basically the same test in terms of pattern – same listening, reading, writing, speaking sections. The only real diff is IELTS UKVI is taken in a more secure test environment 'coz it’s for UK visa rules. Like there’s a camera watching all the time :grimacing:

Thank you all for the clarifying my doubt. So for Canada I just need to get regular IETLS score.
