Hey!! I’m gearing up for the upcoming semester and looking into the on-campus housing options. I have read that the Tempe campus has a bunch of residence areas listed on the website, but it’s a bit overwhelming. Anyone who’s been there, mind breaking it down for me? Any suggestions on which area I should aim for when applying? Thanks a bunch!
There are a lot of options , if you are thinking about living on-campus, it would be fairly expensive than if you are living off campus. There are a lot of options available in a 1 or 2 mile radius, you can live with your friends in a sharing flat, and it’s a saving mantra for your rent, electricity bill and maybe groceries if you want to cook.
well I need a place preferably with a year’s lease. I’m leaning on the lower side, $700-$900/month. Don’t really mind the kind of room or sharing a bathroom.
I just finished a three month search for a new place, but I’m not looking for the same thing as you. Rents in Tempe have actually been decreasing since I first moved here 2 years ago. It’s still not affordable for someone making a lower wage, but it’s definitely improved. Go to
http://apartments.com
or similar (Zillow, Redfin). Type in your criteria and search low to high. There are rooms listed there. You might also stumble on a cheap apartment if you don’t mind bad parts of town and older, less well kept places. Mesa, Phoenix, really anywhere is going to be cheaper than Tempe. The further you get from campus, the cheaper you’ll find. There might also be other sources for finding roommates, but I don’t know those in particular. Look early!
Anything within this box will be safe.
On-campus housing will not be within that budget so off campus would be the best option. In fact, on a quad sharing basis, a 2B2B apartment may be between 500-700.
There are few groups like ASU List, Indian Students Association, and session-wise FB groups where you can post what you’re looking for and find roommates.
Here are some options where I know Indian student live and it is within 1 mile radius

Always prefer to stay close to Tempe campus. You would have communities like Paseo, Hyve, Onnix, DPV, Volta. These are some popular student communities across Tempe campus. All the best !
