How good is university of Canada West?

Thinking about applying to the University of canada west , how does the University of Canada West , Canada ranking actually compare to other universities in Canada and globally? Is it even considered good for international students?

hey @ So about University Canada West (UCW) it’s a private uni in Vancouver, not one of the big public ones like UBC or Toronto. That’s why you won’t really see it high in world rankings (it’s actually ranked quite low compared to other Canadian unis).

UCW is more business-focused (MBA, commerce, management kind of programs) and they do have smaller classes and decent support for international students, which can be good if you don’t want to feel lost in a huge uni. The location in Vancouver is also nice, with good job opportunities around.

But honestly, in terms of prestige and global recognition, it’s nowhere near the top Canadian universities. If you’re looking for research or a big name on your degree, UCW isn’t the best pick. If you just want a business degree, flexible options, and don’t mind the lower ranking, then it could still work.

So yeah, it really depends on what you’re looking for — recognition vs convenience.

@Bhavi_Chinna University Canada West (UCW) is a private, for-profit university based in Vancouver, not a top-ranked institution if we compare it to UofT, McGill, or UBC. According to EduRank 2025, UCW ranks 85th in Canada and over 5,000th globally. It has a QS Stars 5-star rating, which reflects its teaching quality and student satisfaction, but it’s not part of international rankings like QS Top 1500 or THE.

UCW is known for small class sizes, helpful faculty, and career-focused programs, especially in MBA, marketing, business analytics, and cybersecurity. It’s very international over 14,000 students from more than 110 countries. The university does have a valid Designated Learning Institution (DLI) status, which means you can get a study permit and PGWP. Still, several reviews say the quality of education and job placements isn’t very strong some students do get work, but more often in entry-level roles.

Visa-wise, Canada requires proof of funds, and as a DLI, UCW meets that requirement. But students should be cautious and verify that their chosen course qualifies for PGWP.

Overall: UCW is a decent backup option if you’re looking for shorter, business-focused programs and can’t get into top public universities. But if ranking, long-term career opportunities, and prestige matter to you it may not be the best route.
