Thinking about applying to the University of canada west , how does the University of Canada West , Canada ranking actually compare to other universities in Canada and globally? Is it even considered good for international students?
hey @Bhavi_Chinna So about University Canada West (UCW) — it’s a private uni in Vancouver, not one of the big public ones like UBC or Toronto. That’s why you won’t really see it high in world rankings (it’s actually ranked quite low compared to other Canadian unis).
UCW is more business-focused (MBA, commerce, management kind of programs) and they do have smaller classes and decent support for international students, which can be good if you don’t want to feel lost in a huge uni. The location in Vancouver is also nice, with good job opportunities around.
But honestly, in terms of prestige and global recognition, it’s nowhere near the top Canadian universities. If you’re looking for research or a big name on your degree, UCW isn’t the best pick. If you just want a business degree, flexible options, and don’t mind the lower ranking, then it could still work.
University Canada West (UCW) is a private university in Vancouver that mainly focuses on business and management programs. Ranking-wise, it’s not among the top Canadian universities like UBC or Toronto; globally, it’s placed much lower (around #5,700 on EduRank), though it does hold a 5-Star QS Stars rating for quality under that system. The good part is that UCW is quite international, with students from over 100 countries, small class sizes, and career-focused programs, which makes it attractive for some students. On the visa side, UCW is a Designated Learning Institution (DLI**)**, so it’s valid for study permits, but with Canada’s new rules (like higher proof of funds and, in some cases, a Provincial Attestation Letter), you’ll need to be very careful with documentation. Overall, UCW can be an option if you want a business-focused, flexible program in Vancouver, but ranking-wise it’s not at the level of Canada’s public research universities.
Hi @Bhavi_Chinna, I looked into University of Canada West last year when I was checking Canadian unis, so here’s what I found. UCW is more of a teaching-focused private university, so it doesn’t really show up high in global or national rankings like UBC, Toronto, or Waterloo. It’s relatively new compared to those big names.
That said, a few international students I spoke to mentioned it’s decent if you’re mainly looking for an affordable option in Vancouver and want smaller class sizes with more one-on-one interaction. The downside is that it doesn’t carry the same reputation or research strength as the bigger public universities, which can matter for jobs or further studies.
So I’d say it’s okay for gaining a Canadian degree and exposure, but if rankings and brand name are important to you (especially long term for jobs or PhD plans), you might want to compare it carefully with mid-tier public unis in Canada.
