Denmark Tightens Rules for Indian & South Asian Students

Indian students eyeing Denmark for higher education will soon face stricter entry and stay conditions. The Danish Ministry of Immigration and Integration announced new measures to curb the misuse of student visas as a backdoor into the labour market.

Key Changes You Should Know

  • Tougher Entry Tests: Mandatory entrance exams and language proficiency checks.

  • Document Verification: Universities must verify certificates with the National ID Center.

  • Family Visas Restricted: Fewer chances to bring dependents.

  • Shorter Post-Study Work Permits: Reduced from 3 years to 1 year.

  • Fraud Reviews: Existing permits of Bangladeshi and Nepali students under scrutiny.

Why the Crackdown?

Data shows higher dropout and lower exam success among students from Nepal and Bangladesh. India has also been flagged for higher-than-average family reunification applications (23%). The government argues that genuine students are welcome, but “study must remain the main purpose.”

Well thats bad news, but honestly using Student Visa to sponsor the whole family is a misuse of the freedom given by the country, I understand why the rules are stricter now.
