Canada Revamps Post-Study Work Permit Courses for 2025 Intake

Canada has updated its Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) program, affecting international students who apply for non-degree courses after November 1, 2024. The move aims to match student training with Canada’s current labour market needs and Express Entry reforms.

What Are the Changes?

  • 119 new programs added
  • 178 outdated programs removed
  • Focus on in-demand sectors: healthcare, education, skilled trades
  • Transport and some STEM fields (e.g., environmental studies) are now ineligible

Examples of newly eligible programs:

  • French & Biology Teacher Education
  • Dentistry & Veterinary Medicine
  • Architecture & Landscape Design
  • Construction Project Management
  • Cabinetmaking & CNC Machinist Tech

Language Requirements

  • Non-university grads: CLB/NCLC Level 5*
  • University grads: CLB/NCLC Level 7**
  • Flight school grads: No field-specific restrictions

Note: Students who applied before June 25, 2025, are not affected.
