Can I still get an LoR from my old teacher who's at a different college now?

One of my fav teachers who taught me CS is now working at another college. Just wondering… can I still ask them for a letter of recommendation for my uni apps or does it have to be someone from my current school?

Hello @yashh Yeah, of course you can ask them! Doesn’t matter if they’ve moved to a different college as long as they know you well and can genuinely talk about your work or how you were in class, that’s totally fine.

In fact, it’s better to get a letter from someone who actually remembers your skills, rather than picking someone just from your current college who doesn’t know you much. So yeah, if your CS sir/ma’am was your favourite and they saw your potential, definitely ask them!

Hi @yashh,

Yes, you can definitely ask your former CS teacher for a letter of recommendation, even if they’ve moved to another college , especially if they know your work well. However, some universities require the LOR to be on the official letterhead of your current college. So make sure to check the specific requirements. If that’s the case, you might need to get at least one LOR from a current faculty member.
