Can I change my course after receiving my VISA?

I had applied for a student visa at a university in the US, however due to delay in VISA delivery, I couldn’t travel back then. I, now have a VISA with me, but I’m planning to pursue a different course at the same university instead of the one I originally applied for.

And if I get admitted in a different university, will it be a problem when I travel on the same VISA?

Or you can directly contact the embassy they must have provided a contact number or email id on their website, I guess.
