Starting January 2025, the Government of Australia has updated its student visa policies to improve transparency and streamline applications.
Here’s what international students need to know:
-
CoE Now Mandatory – The Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE), a digital document confirming enrollment, replaces the Letter of Offer as the key document for visa applications. Without it, applications will be invalid.
-
This applies to both onshore and offshore students. A valid CoE is required to renew your visa and avoid issues like being denied a bridging visa.
-
Exemption for Older Applications – If you’ve submitted your application before January 1, 2025, with a Letter of Offer, don’t worry. Your application remains valid under the new rules.
Why the Change?
The update is a part of Australia’s ongoing efforts to upgrade academic standards, transparency, and economic contributions from international students. By understanding the government’s objectives, international students can better prepare for their studies in Australia.
