Personally, I believe you should take the IELTS exam 6–12 months before applying. This gives you enough time to prepare properly and, if you’re not satisfied with your score, you still have the chance to retake the test. Since IELTS scores are valid for two years, it’s always better to plan ahead and book your exam accordingly.
