Hi @Tan,

There are mainly two types of scholarships available to students - internal scholarships and external scholarships.

Internal scholarships are provided by the university to international students. It can be need-based or merit-based. For example, for your target course, the top UK colleges and scholarships offered by them are -

The University of Manchester - Faculty of Science and Engineering Postgraduate Loyalty Bursary offers a scholarship of £2,200 to international students.

University College London - offers up to £10,000 (for one year) or a 10% contribution towards tuition fees. There are more than 20 scholarships offered by the university.

The University of Sheffield - offers International Merit Postgraduate Taught Scholarship, which contributes up to 25% towards your tuition fee.

Queen Mary, University of London - offers Queen Mary Global Excellence Scholarships (PG) for all Master’s degrees taught within the Faculty of Science and Engineering worth £2000.

The University of Southampton - offers Postgraduate Merit Scholarships, which deducts up to £9,000 from your tuition fees.

External scholarships are offered by external organizations such as the government or a private organization. Some of the UK-specific scholarships are -

  1. Chevening scholarships
  2. Commonwealth Master’s scholarships
  3. GREAT scholarships

Some other common scholarships are -

  1. KC Mahindra Scholarships
  2. JN Tata Endowment scholarships
  3. GyanDhan Scholarship
  4. Inlaks Scholarship
  5. Global Study Awards
  6. Narotam Sekhsaria Foundation Scholarships
  7. Aga Khan Foundation Scholarship

All the above-mentioned scholarships are merit-based. Your academic records should meet the eligibility criteria to apply for the scholarship. Do check out the website of your target college/university for more scholarships. You can also contact your department to inquire about the funding for international students.

I hope this answer helps you. Do post on this thread for any further doubts.

Thank u soo much ma’am! Ma’am I too had a quick query as I am getting 6000£ scholarship at university of Brunel for jan 2021 intake should I go for it?? Or should I wait for september 2021 intake and apply for more good ranking universities.
Thank you

Hi @Tan,

This question will be better answered by an admission counselor. So, I have forwarded your query to them. I will post the answer as soon as I get a reply from them.
Thank you for your patience.

In the meanwhile, can you please share your academic credentials, such as GPA, language proficiency test scores, or any other test you took? This way the answer would be specific to your situation.

I did my btech from NIT -B, with percentile 75.2%
Ilets 6 with 5.5 in two sections, my 12th percent 92.20 and 10th percent 79.8%

Ma’am I also want to know when to apply for common wealth scholarship
Actually before brunel I got uni of birmingham, Uk but due to some financial reason I have to leave the uni n as I am getting 6000£ scholarship from brunel I thought to go for is it a correct thing m doing or according to my profile I have some good scholarship chances??
Thank you

Hi @Tan,

The University of Brunel is a mediocre university with your academic credentials. You can definitely get a better-ranked university. The 5.5 in two of the IELTS sections might create some problems. So if you can retake the exam, it’d be great. With your academic credentials, the chances of getting a scholarship are also good.

Commonwealth Scholarship - The applications for the 2020 academic year are now closed. The application for the 2021 academic year is likely to start from August/September. The application announcement is circulated on the university website as well as the UGC website.

To know about better-ranked universities, I’d advise you to get admission counseling. You can avail of a 30-minute first free session -

Do post on this thread for any more queries. I’d be happy to help!
All the best!
