As not being a native English speaker, how challenging is it likely to be for me to get an 8 on the IELTS?
It definitely is a challenge, but it something which is not achievable! Millions of non-native speakers get 8 or higher. It’s all about targeted preparation and focusing on the specific skills they assess.
Honestly, it’s not as tough as you might think. I prepped for IELTS for about a month, and my English isn’t amazing – actually, it’s probably below average. But IELTS is one of those tests where if you learn the rules and stick to them, you can get a good score.
The IELTS isn’t just about being fluent; it’s about demonstrating your ability to use English effectively in academic and everyday contexts. They’re looking at things like grammar, vocabulary range, coherence, and pronunciation
So, what kind of prep should I focus on? I’m okay with reading and listening, but I’m a little worried about the writing and speaking sections…
For speaking, focus on fluency and pronunciation. Record yourself speaking and try to identify areas where you can improve. Practice speaking on a variety of topics, and try to think on your feet.
