LOR not written by direct supervisor acceptable?

Is it acceptable for someone in my field, but not my direct supervisor, to write a letter of recommendation for me?

Doing my undergrad in the US was one of the best decisions I made! It was challenging, definitely, but the experience was incredible. The education is top-notch, the opportunities are vast, and you meet people from all over the world. It really broadened my horizons.
