It sounds like you’re experiencing a bit of East Coast rivalry banter. The rivalry between New Jersey and New York, as well as between the respective universities, is a common part of the culture in the region. 
I was dissed by people from rutgers
I have friends from NJ and they all seemed to hate on NY. Is this normal lol? I said i attend UB and they immediately say how rutgers is in the big ten now and way better.
Like i didnt even say that much
