Launched in 1995 by the State Bank of India, education loans have found many takers among the student community and today almost all public and private banks in India offer this at varied terms and conditions. Since the cost of education, in India and abroad, has seen an upward rise, an increasing number of students opt to take education loans to finance their education. Apart from being able to finance their higher education, education loans also have other benefits such as keeping the personal savings safe for other contingencies, easy visa approval, and tax exemptions among others.
