Confused About the Different IELTS Versions – 8, 9, 10, 11?

Hey everyone! I’ve been seeing mentions of IELTS 8, 9, 10, and even 11 in different places while researching study abroad stuff. Are these different versions of the IELTS exam? Or is it something else? I’m a bit confused – would love some clarity!

Great question! There’s actually only one IELTS test, but it gets scored on a band scale from 1 to 9. So when someone says “I got an IELTS 8,” they’re talking about their score, not a version of the exam. There’s no IELTS 10 or 11 in terms of versions or scores – the scale stops at 9.
